The County Surveyor is responsible for maintaining Public Land Survey (PLS) corners. Rice County has approximately 1,900 (PLS) corners which were established by the federal government in 1854. These monuments form the foundation of land ownership throughout the county. The County Surveyor identifies, maps, restores, and preserves these monuments.
The County Surveyor provides an array of other services such as:
Reviewing Plats, Common Interest Community Plats (CIC), and Registered Land Survey Plats (RLS) for compliance with Minnesota State Statutes.
Performing grade staking at the county landfill.
Assisting with county highway right-of-way mapping and acquisitions.
Providing positional data for the county geographic information system (GIS).
Assisting the county with projects related to land surveying.
The County Surveyor’s duties do not include performing surveys of private land. If you would like your property surveyed, consult your yellow page directory for a licensed Land Surveyor.
