Carlos Smith Convicted of Criminal Sexual Conduct

Carlos Antione Smith, 24, today pled guilty to two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 2nd Degree.  Smith admitted that in June of 2016 he had sexual contact with two juvenile females, and used force or coercion to accomplish the act causing personal injury to at least one of the victims in the process.

Because of the serious nature of the offense and Smith’s prior criminal history, he will serve a sentence of 255 months in prison.  In addition, Smith will be subject to lifetime registration as a predatory offender and subject to lifetime supervised release, meaning that if he violates any condition of parole on his release he could be sent back to prison for up to the rest of his life.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Rice County Attorney Kristine Word.  “Smith is a dangerous and violent offender,” Rice County Attorney John Fossum said.  “Thanks to the strength of these victims and the excellent investigation of the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, the public will be safe from his predatory conduct.”  Fossum added.

Smith is currently in prison for offenses committed in Olmsted County. Sentencing on this file is scheduled for September 25, 2018.
