The health and safety of staff and the entire community continues to be a priority for Rice County. Counties provide critical services to residents and while some of our facilities may be closed to the public, employees will be continuing to work to provide supporting and essential services to the residents of Rice County. Below is the most current information regarding office closures and service modifications. Public meetings regularly scheduled to be conducted in the County Commissioner Board Room will be held via telephone or other electronic means (per Minn. Stat. §13D.021). Rice County Recorder’s Office public window is closed until further notice.
E-recording will continue as normal but all paper documents will be accepted by mail only or you can drop them off on the north side of the building. Please include a phone number where we can reach you for questions. All paper documents will be mailed back.
Passport processing has been suspended. This includes processing at the City Hall in Northfield on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month until we are open to the public.
Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates – requests for certificates can be made by mailing the application to the Recorder’s Office or dropping them off in the drop off box on the north and south side of the building. Forms are available on the Rice County website at: www.co.rice.mn.us. Signatures on the birth and death forms must be notarized. Fees can be paid by check or money order. Requests will be processed as we receive them and mailed out on a daily basis.
We will not be able to process any Marriage Applications at this time. Notary filings can be done through the mail. Please contact our office at (507)-332-6114.
Ordination filings can be done through the mail. All forms and necessary information is on our website.
Rice County Courthouse (507)332-6107
By order of Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn, effective March 19, 2020 at 7:30 am, access to the Rice County Courthouse will be restricted. The courthouse is not being closed.
Only essential staff, officers of the courts and people with scheduled court hearings will be allowed into the Courthouse. This would include employees of Court Administration, Judges and staff, along with employees of the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Attorney’s Office, Rice County Probation, Rice County Social Services, Public Health, attorneys, public defender and victim advocates. No other members of the public will be allowed into the courthouse until deemed safe to do so by the order of the Sheriff. This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rice County Veteran Service Office in both Faribault and Northfield is closed to the public until further notice.
