2019 Road Construction Season

The Rice County Highway Department’s construction season will soon begin.  This year’s projects include the following:

CSAH No. 1 (110th St E) – Complete the reconstruction of 1.6 miles between MN TH No. 3 and MN TH No. 246.  Work this year includes:  minor grading and shaping, turf establishment, paving, pavement markings, and miscellaneous cleanup and maintenance items.  The road will be open to traffic, however, lane closures and significant travel delays should be expected.  Work is anticipated to be completed on or before July 20, 2019.

CSAH No. 76 (Acorn Tr/Baseline Rd) – Reconstruction of 2.1 miles between CSAH No. 9 and CSAH No. 8.  The project includes grading, culverts, storm sewer, aggregate base, paving, shoulder paving, signage, pavement markings and turf establishment.  This segment of CSAH No. 76 will be closed to thru traffic and a detour route will be posted.  Work is anticipated to begin the week of April 22nd and road closure the week of April 29th.  Work may continue through most of the construction season.

CSAH No. 46 (Bagley Ave) – Realignment of 1,640’ of CSAH No. 46 at the intersection with MN TH No. 19.  Work includes relocating the intersection of CSAH No. 46 with MN TH No. 19 approximately 400’ west, grading, aggregate base, concrete pavement, bituminous shouldering, widening and paving on MN TH No. 19, signage, striping and turf establishment.  This segment of CSAH No. 46 will be closed to thru traffic and a detour route will be posted.  Access to the Flying J truck-stop will be maintained from MN TH No. 19 during construction.  Work is anticipated to begin in July and be completed on or before October 26, 2019.  

CR No. 59 (Old Dutch Road) – Mill, reclamation, pavement surfacing and guardrail replacement on 2.9 miles between Baldwin Avenue and MN TH No. 19.  The roadway will be open to traffic, however, single lane closures and travel delay should be expected. The construction start date has not yet been determined.  Completion is anticipated to be on or before October 5, 2019.

CR No. 79 (90th St E) – Mill, reclamation and pavement surfacing on 2.5 miles between the Northfield corporate limits and CSAH No. 42.    The roadway will be open to traffic, however, single lane closures and travel delay should be expected.  The construction start date has not yet been determined.  Completion is anticipated to be on or before October 5, 2019.

CSAH No. 1 (100th St W) – Concrete box culvert replacement located 1,150’ west of Kent Avenue.  The roadway will be closed to thru traffic and a detour route will be posted.  Work is anticipated to begin in July and be completed in August.

St. Paul Road (old CSAH No. 20 ) and 17th St SW (old CSAH 47) – Bituminous mill and overlay of St. Paul Rd between TH No. 60 and CSAH No. 25 and 17th St SW between 9th Avenue SW and Willow Street.  The roadway will be open to traffic, however single lane closures and travel delay should be expected.  Work is anticipated to begin in June and be completed in July.

Culvert Replacements & Rehabilitation on CSAH No. 6 (50th St W), CSAH 27 (Nerstrand Blvd), CR 72 (Independence Ave), CR 61 (Fairbanks Ave), and CSAH 9 (150th St W) – Replace or rehabilitate existing culverts for future pavement resurfacing projects or maintenance needs.  Daily road closures, travel delays and the use of alternate routes should be expected.  Work scheduled to begin in May and be completed in August.

Pavement overlays and patching, miscellaneous culvert replacements, pavement striping, pavement crack sealing and other maintenance projects requiring temporary road closures at various locations throughout the County are planned for the duration of the construction season.
