Water Resource Management

The Water Resource Management division is responsible for updating the Rice County Local Water Management Plan and implementing action items as detailed in the plan. The division coordinates water protection activities with outside agencies, and implements various grant projects related to protecting surface and groundwater resources.

The division is also involved in assisting with shoreland alteration issues, erosion control issues and wastewater treatment education. For questions or concerns relating to Water Planning, please contact Rice County Environmental Services at 507-332-6113.

Cannon River One Watershed, One Plan (1W1P)

In 2016 Rice County and other planning partners joined together to submit an application to the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) to develop One Watershed, One Plan (1W1P) for the Cannon River Watershed. The goal of 1W1P is to align local water planning on major watershed boundaries with state strategies towards prioritized, targeted and measureable implementation plans.
